Game of Thrones

A few weeks ago, I binge-watched all five seasons of Game of Thrones, and now I'm suffering from withdrawal. I don't think I've ever been so emotionally invested in a series since Harry Potter. I haven't really gotten around to reading A Song of Ice and Fire though. I definitely would've made time had The Winds of Winter(book 6) been out; just to know if Jon Snow comes back to life.

Back in 2013, I started watching Game of Thrones after hearing a lot of good reviews. I was also binge-watching The Mentalist at the time and I got so caught up in the Red John saga that I left GoT hanging at episode 4 of season 1. I then watched quite a number of shows in the next couple of years and after their season finales this summer, I didn't have anything to look forward to. With GoT having aired its season finale and everyone going crazy over Jon Snow's death, I decided maybe it was time for me to resume the show. And yes, I knew Jon was going to die even before I began; I watched the damn scene with my brother.

I'm not a big fan of historical dramas but everything about Game of Thrones is truly EPIC. It's a super complex show with so many characters and storylines. It has a great cast; I love EVERY one of them, even the actor who plays Joffrey - for making me hate him so much. GoT showcases beauty and pain, cruelty and honour, good and bad - how even the best characters are flawed and even the worst have something redeeming. It has twists and turns that lock us in, and the developments are impossible to anticipate. Nobody is safe and anyone of them could die at any minute. There's sadness, frustration and disappointment whenever a central character is killed. But when Joffrey died, I got a chance to scream "YES!" at the show that had so often made me scream "NOOO!".

Now to the big question: will Jon be back? There are some brilliant fan theories. I'm all for R+L=J. Whether he's a Targaryen or a warg, whether Melisandre revives him or he becomes a white walker, I just want the broody Jon Snow back. I'm also excited to see how The dragon has three heads prophecy turns out.

Game of Thrones has left a Westeros-sized hole in my nights. Can't wait for the next season!
